Chicago Bulls Win Draft Lottery: a Shot in the Dark Comes to Fruition

For a talented squad who underperformed last season, achieving the ninth-worst record in the NBA, Tuesday's draft lottery might be just what the Chicago Bulls needed. 

The Bulls need to be looked at a serious contender in the East, now that they have the opportunity to pick either Derrick Rose or Michael Beasley in the upcoming draft. 

It came as a surprise to the entire organization. Then again, so did the whole season this year, as the Bulls compiled just 33 victories in a season in which they were projected by some to make the Conference Finals. 

Bulls' executive vice president of business operations, Steve Schanwald stated, "After this season, we needed a break and I think we just got one tonight." 

A break, indeed.  Adding Beasley to an already potent lineup that includes Ben Gordon, Kirk Hinrich, Luol Deng, and Larry Hughes, will automatically make the Bulls a threat in the weak East. 

In addition to possibly adding Beasley, the Bulls already have a plethora of young talent in the post, the majority of that coming from Joakim Noah and Tyrus Thomas. 

Will this be the revival of the old Bulls, but on a smaller scale?  I wouldn't be surprised. 

Granted, there is no player that could single-handedly help the Bulls enough to make them the team that they had with Jordan and Pippen, but it will help nonetheless. 

If the Bulls were to pick Beasley, and pass on hometown hero Rose, I could most definitely foresee Beasley putting up gaudy numbers.  Kevin Durant did darn well in the NBA this year, and Beasley dominated more than Durant did in college--and that is saying something.

As explosive as Rose is, and as great of an NCAA tournament as he had, I don't see how the Bulls can pass on a forward who averaged 26 ppg and 12 rpg his freshman year in college! 

Beasley was by far the most talented player in the country last year, despite placing second in POY voting behind Tyler Hansbrough.

Only time will tell, but for now Chicago basketball fans can celebrate to their hearts desire.
