As reported by Arsenal, Mertesacker lasted just 50 minutes against the Canaries before Gabriel Paulista had to come on as a replacement.
Gabriel to Benefit from Mertesacker Absence
Mertesacker was an almost ever-present force under manager Arsene Wenger last season, where he made 35 Premier League starts as the Gunners ran to a third-place finish and won the FA Cup for a second successive season.
The German has served as a reliable leader throughout the season, standing in as captain in Mikel Arteta's absence during the club's rise to title contention and subsequent fall down the standings.
In Mertesacker's absence, Gabriel should be first in line to fill in, while Calum Chambers has also filled in at centre-back in the past.
The veteran has already retired from international football, so Mertesacker's injury won't have an impact on Germany's plans for the upcoming UEFA Euro 2016 tournament.
