Cowboy's Roy Williams May Have Broken Collarbone

UPDATE: It now seems NBC Sports Pro Football site, who initially broke this story, is now calling the diagnosis incomplete. The broken collarbone scare was allegedly based on an x-ray, which was incorrect information. The Dallas Morning News cite two sources as saying x-rays on Williams’ shoulder/collarbone were negative. Williams himself told doctors his collarbone was broken, but x-rays did not confirm that.  Williams will now have an MRI tomorrow (Friday) to receive a more thorough diagnosis.

The Dallas Cowboys thought they could let Terrell Owens go because they had Roy Williams in the wings.

Now it appears that Williams has a broken collarbone and two months of his season could be over before it starts.

Williams collided with cornerback Orlando Scandrick near the goal line and did not immediately get up. One source claims it’s not a break; another insists that it is. If in fact his collarbone is broken, this is not good news for Dallas, who may have to start looking at free agent Marvin Harrison or Philadelphia wide receiver Reggie Brown.

“It’s football,” linebacker Bradie James said. “I mean, sometimes people run into each other. Hopefully, that’s all it is.”

In the meantime, Dallas and coach Wade Phillips are sticking with the story that’s it’s just a simple neck injury that will only keep Williams out for the remainder of the preseason.

Let’s hope that’s all it is.

Either way, it hurts the Cowboys and the fantasy owners who drafted Williams.
