Extreme Consequences: WWE RAW Rewind

Ron JohnsonMay 19, 2008

After a twist and turn-filled Judgment Day, RAW opened live from the Kemper Arena in Kansas City.Ā  What better way to open the show than with Jeff Hardy in action.

Jeff Hardy and Umaga battle to Double Countout

After two big upsets since his return, Jeff Hardy is back in the ring against a familiar foe: Umaga. A series of punches gives Umaga the early advantage, but an early miscue from the Samoan Bulldozer gives Hardy brief control.

Following a Samoan Drop, Umaga regains the momentum as he nails Hardy with a flying headbutt.

Umaga goes for the Samoan Splash but gets caught with two quick mule kicks that send him outside of the ring.

After a flying Senton outside, Umaga takes charge and catches the Rainbow-Haired Warrior and drops him with the Bulldozer Whiplash.

Unfortunately, neither combatant is able to get back into the ring before the 10-count, and the match ends with Hardy unconscious on the floor.

Backstage, Jericho and Batista try to psych each other out before their match, and both want the same thing: Shawn Michaels at One Night Stand.

The show returns from break with the lights out in the Kemp. The lights reignite, showing fans RAW GM William Regal in the ring.

He announces that Hardy and Umaga will face each other in a Falls Count Anywhere Match at One Night Stand, but he then addresses Randy Orton and JBL.

He makes a tag match involving them, John Cena and Triple H, for later tonight with Extreme Repurcussions for all four men. But just as before, Regal's Reign of Terror is interrupted by none other than Mr. Kennedy.

Kennedy comes out to once again challenge Regal, but Regal is so irate that he says the next person that interrupts him will be fired on the spot. Guess he wasn't expecting Vince McMahon to be the next person to interrupt him.

Mr. McMahon comes out to put this issue to bed by making a match: Kennedy vs. Regal tonight...and the loser will be fired!

Beth Phoenix defeats Maria

Melina arrives to the announcers table to give her take on this diva match. As Maria tries to get an early advantage, Phoenix begins to display her uncanny strength, which continued throughout the match.

This match didn't take long to unfold as Phoenix hit the Glam Slam and followed up with the Glam Stretch for the submission.

But after the match, Melina nails Phoenix with another boot as she is walking towards the back. But the Glamazon pulls her over and throws her off her back to the ground.

Following the match, scenes are shown from Rowdy Roddy Piper's appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live to celebrate Kimmel's cousin Sal's birthday.

Afterwards, Mickie James and Katie Lea are at odds about the Women's Championship and Mickie's relationship with John Cena.

On top of that, Regal makes the first of his last two decisions of the night as he informs Shawn Michaels that his match at One Night Stand will be a Stretcher Match against either Y2J or Batista.

Batista defeats Chris Jericho to earn Stretcher Match against HBK

The two men open the match locking horns and pummeling each other. As the match continues, Jericho pulls a HBK and feigns a knee injury that has no effect on the Animal's emotions, except for a big smile.

Batista continues the assault when RAW returns from break, but a little too much momentum sends him over the top rope and to the floor below, injuring his left knee in the process.

Jericho starts to take advantage of the injury and concentrates solely on the knee. Everything is going in his favor until a big boot and spine-buster shifts momentum to Batista.

As he goes for the Batista Bomb, Y2J counters it into a Single Leg Boston Crab, but the Animal finds a way to reach the ropes to break the hold.

After a chop block, Jericho takes too much time to reach the top rope and gets caught with a clothesline on the way down. Then the match gets really intense as Batista attempts the Spear.

But Y2J moves out of the way, and the Animal hits the middle turnbuckle. Jericho runs and attempts the Code Breaker but is caught and dropped with a thunderous Batista Bomb.

SmackDown!'s Animal gets his wish as his next opponent comes out from the back. He earns the right to face Shawn Michaels in a Stretcher Match at One Night Stand in two weeks.

In the back, Regal is kicked out of his office by Vince McMahon as talks business with Ted DiBiase. While that is going on, the crowd begins to go crazy as the familiar bagpipes and drums fill the Kemper.

But what happens next, no one sees coming. A brash Santino Marella comes out in his best impression of the Hot Rod and begins to make a mockery of Piper's Pit.

Piperella then calls out the man who shoved a birthday cake in his face last week: Cousin Sal from Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Marella tries to berate Sal over his respect for Piper.Ā

Sal doesn't miss a beat as he throws down some wicked burns about Marella, Santino's ex-girlfriend Maria and then compares his manhood to that a fourth grader, prompting a "DAMN!" from Ron Simmons on the TitanTron.

Piperella picks up a cake he had hiding under a cloth and demands an apology from Sal.

But as he waits for his apology, a sneaky Hot Rod (The Real One) comes up from behind to provide enough distraction for Sal to shove yet another birthday cake into the face of Marella.

Kennedy defeats William Regal to give Regal his Walking Papers

In a match made by McMahon earlier, the rules are simple: Win or You're Gone! And what a way to start this one as the two combatants start slugging it out left to right.

After a running boot sends him to the outside, Regal gains the advantage with a leg trip on the edge of the ring apron.

But Kennedy recovers and the slugfest begins again, now pouring outside the ring. After a cheap shot keeps Kennedy grounded, Regal makes his final decision of the night: "This match is now a No Disqualification Match."

With that, he grabbed the Brass Knucks that were stashed with one of the staff and rolls Kennedy back into the ring after running him into the steel steps.

Regal begins to stalk his prey and waits for him to get to his feet to nail the final blow that would send Kennedy to the unemployment line.

But as he prepares to uncork, Kennedy hits him with a kick to the gut followed by the Mic Check for the win.

Following the match, the crowd erupts, and Kennedy strikes a pose at the end of the ramp as Regal begins to gather himself up from the ground.

But the best part of this moment was when the loyal Chiefs’ fans rose to their feet. No, not for a standing ovation, but to begin the chorus of the infamous Goodbye Song that had been sung a many times over the years.

As Regal makes his way to the back to try to talk McMahon into letting him keep his job as General Manager, he runs into former SmackDown! Assistant GM, Teddy Long, who looks to have a bigger, bolder swing in his strut.

While Randy Orton and JBL make their entrance, the Kemp is still abuzz from the arrival of former SmackDown! GM Teddy Long.

Match of Extreme Consequences: Randy Orton & JBL defeat Triple H & John Cena

The rules of this match were one of the last decisions made by former GM William Regal. If Orton and JBL win, they get their rematches and the choice of stipulations against The Game and Cena.

If Cena and Triple H win, they face each other at One Night Stand for the WWE Championship. Let the games begin.

Orton starts the bout with some huge punishment on Cena, but Cena fights back with a Bulldog, which proves enough to get the tag in to Triple H.

The Game goes after both men as he cheap shots Layfield, which allows Cena to send Orton over the top rope.

JBL has complete control as the show returns from its final commercial break. A tag to Orton allows the Legend Killer to continue the punishment on Triple H, but a miscue allows the Game to tag in Cena.

Following a Five-Knuckle Shuffle, things start to break down as JBL almost kicks Cena's head clean off, almost ending the match.

After a head-to-head (literally) collision in the corner, both Cena and Orton manage to muster up enough energy to tag in their partners. After JBL tries to hit the Clothesline from Hell, Triple H reverses it into a Spinebuster.

He then tags in Cena and goes after Orton. Orton runs back into the ring as Cena applies the STFU to JBL and punts Cena's head again allowing JBL to cover him for the win.

Following the match, the two men attack the WWE Champion, and Orton lands the RKO. They then grab a mic and announce the two matches for One Night Stand.

JBL tells an unconscious Cena that the two will meet in a First Blood Match.Ā  As for Orton, he says that he will reclaim his lost prize the same way he did the first time he beat Triple H: in a Last Man Standing Match.

However, the show ended on a good note. A camera caught Regal leaving the Kemp and approaching a limousine.

As he prepared to enter the limo, the driver informed him that he just received word that they will no longer accommodate him. With that, the driver closed the door and drove off, while Regal grabbed his bag and started walking.

Now that's a nice finish. Coming up next: ECW tomorrow night on Sci-Fi. See ya tomorrow!
