The body of Eloi Vasquez, a freshman soccer player for the California Golden Bears, was found in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon, per CNN affiliate KTVU. Vasquez's family confirmed that he was struck by a car, and his body was found on an on-ramp to Interstate Highway 10.

Vasquez, 19, had gone missing over the weekend and was last seen at a party on the USC campus early Saturday morning, per a release from Cal. Victoria Kim and Lauren Raab of the Los Angeles Times reported that as he was leaving the party, Vasquez told friends he was going for a walk but never returned, per a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department.

According to Irene Moore and Kate Larsen of NBC 4 in L.A., Vasquez left the party at about 1:30 a.m. He then called a friend, Aurora Cardenas, who was in Northern California, saying he was "screwed" because he was lost.

"He pretty much said, 'I need you to come over here, I need help.' I asked him 'Where are you?' and he told me that he was in L.A. and that he didn’t know where he was at and that he was lost," Cardenas told NBC Bay Area, via NBC 4. "The second time he called it just clicked. I didn’t know if his phone died, or if he hung up."

The Golden Bears did their best to alert fans of Vasquez's disappearance:

According to the KTVU report, the car accident that killed Vasquez occurred around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, and it wasn't until later that the Los Angeles County coroner identified the body.
