There are so many families that split up and go in different directions when there is a foot game being shown in TV.

Dad is on the couch or at a bar, mom is at the mall, kids are with friends or playing Madden Football on X Box or Wii.  Boyfriends and girlfriends are not doing whatever they do because he is with the hootchie girls at a bar and she is playing some fantasy fashion game or again, at the mall.  What do we do to make this a family event?

For those of us old enough to remember when there was one TV, we could not afford the mall and the Tap Room only had a little TV (maybe) and Ballentine or Schmidt's and maybe a shot, we all tended to watch the game, as a family. (Concrete Charlie, anyone?)

I come from a family of screamers.  My late dad was dying of cancer, 13 years ago,  in bed watched the Super Bowl and came to life when the game was on.  It is really the way I remember him and says a great deal about sports in my family.

I also married a screamer.  Jeff and my dad screamed together.  Jeff and I screamed as students at Penn State (tho' for certain reasons I only vaguely remember the games).

My son, Josh and son in law, Dan, while not screamers, are enthusiasts...but Dan happens to work in the sports industry as a producer and probably screams for the Giants—a no no in our house.

My daughter...reads a book, cooks, watches a few minutes of a game and thinks we are all nuts.  What does she notice?  A guy's looks.

Having opened a family friend sports cafe I see everyone, in fact 3 generations at times.  When I chat with the gals I ask what they like about athletes.  Over 1/2 of the women say some dude or another is hot, good looking or has a great butt.  I ask if they know what that player does on the field, ice or court...huh?  They play on a field?  Wow, they can figure skate?  The replies are funny.

There are women who actually know some "stuff" and there are real enthusiasts who enjoy the games and understand strategy.  How to I engage gals like my daughter and customers in sports?

Give them what they know...hot

To that end Beefcake Fantasy Football was created (in a strange dream, I think).  Why should women play?  It benefits charity (MOMSquad.org) and they get to draft based on a hotness scale. Are women signing up, oh yeah!  Are they coming to watch the Sunday and Monday Night games?—yuppers!

There is also a free kids league for the first 8-10 kids who sign up at my place—again to get the family to watch games together.

I encourage gals of all ages to play...using web meeting technology we will be assisting drafts around the country.  The drafts are tentatively scheduled for August 30th.

Here is how it works...

Beefcake Fantasy Football is intended to engage women who have had little or no interest in the game of football to become active viewers of the game and begin to understand/appreciate the strategy of competitive sports.

Women of all ages appreciate good looking men. By allowing them to draft positions based on whom they think is good looking (beefcake) rather than former fantasy points, yards carried, TD’s scored, women are automatically engaged in the process without having to study and catch up with the guys.

Method

Each player will be ranked on a scale from 1 to 10 and those points will be multipliers used on the Tuesday following the Monday night game. This is also a live draft process, done manually, thus giving women a chance to connect and have fun.

Once the women have teams drafted, the teams will be entered manually into the CBS  Fantasy engine and will be scored traditionally. Each week the scores will be posted on the JJ Elephant website which will feature a unique landing page for the Beefcake League. Scoring will be total points for the season rather than having a playoff.

Charitable Component

Beefcake Fantasy League is also intended to promote a charitable cause. There is a $25.00 fee to play.
