At around noon today, number four landed in Minnesota flying in the Wilf Brothers plane: Viking 1. He was greeted by Chilly and exchanged his street clothes for his practice jersey and helmet. This article is going to be short and to the point.
In a generation in which the media dominates everything, here are a few reasons why this was a great move.
1. Despite everyone saying he's washed up, too old, can't play the whole year, Favre will be perfect for the Vikings. Yes he's old, yes, last year he got hurt; but this year he is in Minnesota. For the first time in Brett's career, he won't have to be THE man.
He's going to be asked to make the same simple throws that Tarvaris and Gus had to make the previous year. Those two quarterbacks are by far less than average and don't understand this offense like Brett does. He'll throw 15-25 times a game and probably complete a good percentage of those passes, as he has his whole career. Right now, the Vikings (under offensive coordinator Darrell Bevel) run the same offense Favre has run for the 16 years at Green Bay. These are facts.
2. The media spits out phrases like "The players had no idea this was coming." "It's wrong to do this to Tarvaris and Sage." Here's the facts following the first quote. Players on the Vikings texted Favre during this whole period of time. The media made it very clear that the Vikings were trying to get Brett so how could the other QB's not understand they were trying to replace them.
These NFL QB's are getting paid millions of dollars. Tarvaris is making around $700,000 a year, and Sage is already guaranteed $3 mill. I'm sorry but the NFL is a business, and the players know that. They're big boys and they can take it when a future Hall of Famer and arguably best QB ever takes their spot on the roster.
3. The Vikes hit the jackpot and because of the surrounding talent, Brett Favre will succeed in this offense. Don't let the media take away from facts.
