Don't Blame Favre, You Dould Have Done The Same
(Photo by Scott A. Schneider/Getty Images)
Picture yourself on a riding lawnmower. There's a cold glass of lemonade or sweet tea in a cup holder beside you. You're a retired NFL quarterback. You've won the Super Bowl, you've won the MVP of the NFL and you're a celebrity. You've done it all.
Next thing you know, a man in a purple shirt is knocking on the door. He wants you to come play football again. In Minnesota.
Granted, it would take a LOT of money to get me to go to Minnesota, but for $10 million, you'd be hard pressed to find anything I wouldn't do.
Brett Favre answered the knock on his door (or maybe it was just a phone call, but he answered whatever it was). Let's not worry about all of the specifics. The Vikings wanted Brett Favre and they got him. The only thing Brett has to do is play football for a year and collect a check bigger than any of us will probably ever see.
The people who should be mad are Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels. These two battled it out during training camp and Brett walks right in and will start in the next preseason game against the Chiefs. Now, those two have a right to be mad, but still not at Favre. They should be mad at their boss.
But it's not Brett's fault. If you want to blame someone, blame Eric Mangini and Brad Childress. They are the one's who couldn't let him stay retired. How is he wrong for taking a reported $10 - 12 million offer to play one more season of football?
If no one showed interest, Brett would still be on his lawnmower in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, sipping lemonade and pushing Wranglers.
