Prepare for Judgment: WWE Judgment Day Preview

Ron JohnsonMay 17, 2008

A few years ago, Eric Bischoff let the inmates run the asylum. This Sunday, the inmates are just plain running wild. Let those who are to be judged step forward to receive your punishment. Here now is the rundown of this Sunday's WWE Judgment Day presented by Rambo.

Triple Threat Match for the WWE Women's Championship

Since the end of last year, the Glamazon has dominated her opponents. She has shown that she is unstoppable as well as beautiful. But every superhero meets their kryptonite sooner or later. Hers came in the form of Mickie James.

The former and current Women's Champion shocked the world one month ago when she dethroned Beth Phoenix to claim yet another reign as champion. But Phoenix has not gone quietly into the night. After their diva tag match at Backlash, it was proven that the rivalry between the two women was doing more than just simmering.

But the twists just keep on coming. After inadvertantly costing the Glamazon her shot at the gold, Melina made it adamantly clear that she is just as good of a Women's Champion as Phoenix ever could be. That was enough for William Regal to make this triple threat diva battle. At Judgment Day, three women will step into the squared circle to battle for the richest prize in the Diva division.

Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels

At Backlash, the Showstopper stopped Batista's show with Sweet Chin Music, despite apparently injuring his knee in the process. Everyone thought that this was the case after the match ended. But Jericho, who was the special referee for the match, called it "The Greatest Act in WWE History."

Following a tag team match a week after the incident, RAW General Manager William Regal continued his reign of terror as he informed Jericho that he and Michaels will collide at Judgment Day. But just like the last few weeks, the hits and twists just kept on coming.

Following a face-to-face confrontation on RAW this past week, there was a third man involved the fray. After Michaels confirmed that he did indeed fake the injury at Backlash to gain the advantage over his opponent, the Animal made it clear his intentions for this Sunday.

Batista wanted HBK to know that his show was going to be stopped at Judgment Day, therefore fulfilling his stern warning from a few weeks ago to the Heartbreak Kid.

What will happen when the Second Coming and the Showstopper lock horns this Sunday? And what role will SmackDown!'s Animal play at Judgment Day?

Kane & CM Punk vs. The Dirt Sheet for the WWE Tag Team Championship

Ever since winning the gold from MVP and Matt Hardy, The Miz and John Morrison have done whatever it takes to keep the gold glistening off their bronze shoulders. But their opponents this Sunday have evil intentions in mind. Since beating Chavo and Bam Neely, the Big Red Machine and the Straight Edge Extremist are looking for something more.

The Dirt Sheet had momentum with a pair of single wins over their contenders this past week on ECW, but CM Punk gathered some extra momentum last night on SmackDown! With everything that is going on between the two shows, who is to say that history won't repeat itself in Kane's sinister eyes?

With the tag team gold on the line, will the Dirt Sheet have enough to continue their reign as champions? Or will the odd couple of the ECW Champion and Mr. Money in the Bank end the Sheet's 15 minutes of fame?

Rivalry Renewed: JBL vs. John Cena

At Wrestlemania 21, John Cena defied the odds of SmackDown!'s most powerful faction and defeated John Bradshaw Layfield for the WWE Championship. At the Judgment Day of that year, Cena and Layfield battled in a grueling, bloody "I Quit" Match. On Sunday, their storied rivalry picks up where it left off.

Layfield blames Cena for costing him his moment of glory at Backlash, but he has been taking his aggressions out on anyone with a pulse. But like always, the former Champ has a chance to put an end to Layfield once again. I expect this match to be just as bad as their last one-on-one encounter.

With Cena returning from the Punt of Orton, it has come down to this. Most likely, the winner of this match will face the WWE Champion at a later date, but for now, it's not about championships. It's about redemption. It's about payback. It's about the Backlash from Backlash.

Edge vs. Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Championship

Since losing the championship at Wrestlemania and falling short of his goal to stop the streak, Edge has been relentless in his quest to regain his lost prize. And with his fiancee Vickie Guerrero running SmackDown!, there's no telling what lengths he'll go to get it.

But the tide was turned after Backlash as the General Manager not only banned the Deadman's patented Death Valley Sleeper, but she also stripped him of the World Heavyweight Championship. But things went from bad to worse for SmackDown!'s power couple. After last week's farce of a Championship Chase, Edge has secured his spot in SmackDown!'s main event.

But Teddy Long had multiple surprises up his sleeve last night as the Board of Directors are now keeping a watchful eye on La Familia...and so is Chavo Guerrero. After unknowingly getting caught in the midst of his aunt's scheme, the proud warrior is sure to play a definitive role in this Sunday's championship match. Expect massive twists at Judgment Day.

Triple H vs. Randy Orton in a Steel Cage for the WWE Championship

In Evolution, he was called the future of the WWE. He was the diamond in the rough. But all diamonds have to begin as lumps of coal and take some abuse before they become the fine gemstone.

The Legend Killer has been relentless since acquiring the WWE Championship at No Mercy in October. From Triple H to John Cena, no one has been left unscathed during the Age of Orton. But that age came to a deathly end at Backlash.

After getting shafted for months by William Regal, The Game is back on top of the world as the WWE Champion. But his reign is tested once more by Regal as Orton gets yet another shot at the gold, but this time in the confines of the Steel Cage.

Will the Age of Orton resume after Judgment Day? Or will the King of Kings continue his 12th reign as WWE Champion and silence his former protege once and for all?

This Sunday, do not judge lest ye be judged yourself. At Judgment Day, the actions of Backlash will come to a suspenseful conclusion in America's Heartland of Omaha, Nebraska. Judgment Day is upon us. May God Have Mercy on their Souls.
