NASCAR Xfinity Series at Atlanta 2015: Results: Winner, Standings and Reaction
After finishing second to Joey Logano in the Daytona 500 last week, Kevin Harvick returned the favor Saturday by beating out his chief rival to win the NASCAR Xfinity Series Hisense 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
The win was a continuation of Harvick's dominance at Atlanta, as he led 101 of 163 laps and made some history in the process, according to NASCAR Xfinity on Twitter:
Here is a rundown of the top 10 finishers, while the full listing of results can be found at NASCAR.com:
| 1 | Kevin Harvick | 88 |
| 2 | Joey Logano | 22 |
| 3 | Ty Dillon | 3 |
| 4 | Chris Buescher | 60 |
| 5 | Chase Elliott | 9 |
| 6 | Paul Menard | 33 |
| 7 | Brian Scott | 2 |
| 8 | Matt Kenseth | 20 |
| 9 | Regan Smith | 7 |
| 10 | Kyle Larson | 42 |
While the race featured only a small handful of Sprint Cup regulars, it was largely controlled by Harvick and Logano throughout the day.
Saturday's event didn't have a massive impact on the Xfinity Series standings since most of the top performers weren't racing for points, but Chris Buescher and Ty Dillon did manage to seize a tie for the top spot over Ryan Reed with fourth- and third-place finishes, respectively.
The following is a snapshot of the current standings following the Hisense 250, courtesy of NASCAR.com:
| 1 | Chris Buescher | 60 | 83 | Leader |
| 2 | Ty Dillon | 3 | 83 | Leader |
| 3 | Ryan Reed | 16 | 75 | -8 |

| 10 | Jeremy Clements | 51 | 53 | -30 |
After the insanity that ensued last week at Daytona, the Atlanta race was almost uneventful, as it featured smooth, green-flag runs for almost the entirety of the day.
It didn't necessarily seem as though that would be the case early on since Jeffrey Earnhardt forced a caution just seven laps in, according to NASCAR Xfinity on Twitter:
The next yellow flag amazingly didn't come out until 78 laps later, and it wasn't even the result of a crash or spinout:
There is no question that the biggest storyline was the battle between the defending Sprint Cup champion in Harvick and last week's Daytona 500 winner in Logano.
Per Nick DeGroot of Motorsports.com, Harvick and Logano have developed into fierce rivals regardless of which series they are racing in:
As pointed out by NASCAR Xfinity, Harvick has grown accustomed to dominating NASCAR's No. 2 circuit at Atlanta Motor Speedway:
According to NewsObserver.com, Harvick felt entering Saturday's race that Atlanta Motor Speedway fit him well.
"Atlanta has been a great racetrack for me the last few years," Harvick said. "The track surface is really worn out, and the speed of the car changes a lot from the start to the finish of any given run. It makes for some good hard racing as the cars start moving and sliding around the track."
JR Motorsports was especially good at intermediate tracks last year, and Harvick carried that over into the 2015 season:
A caution with 30 laps to go reshuffled the deck a bit, but Harvick and Logano were still at the front of the field. Harvick took the lead off the restart, but Anthony Sandoval of QCOnline.com pointed out that Logano had the better car on long green-flag runs:
With so few laps remaining, though, the odds were certainly against Logano. Things got even bleaker when Harvick widened his lead to more than a second with just 15 laps left.
It proved to be an insurmountable lead, as Logano wasn't quite able to make the comeback he needed in order to steal the victory.
If nothing else, winning on the Xfinity circuit should give Harvick plenty of confidence Sunday when he looks to score his first Sprint Cup win of the season.
Logano has nothing to hang his head about, though, and it will be extremely compelling to see what might happen if Saturday's battle carries over to the Sprint Cup event.
