McAllister: Henderson Surgery Successful
Tuesday, Sept. 22
Reds first-team coach Gary McAllister revealed "everything went well” with Henderson's operation, per James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo, who clarified on Saturday the fracture was to the player's right foot.
Pearce predicted a two-month layoff for the Liverpool captain, who tweeted his annoyance at the latest fitness blow: "Very disappointed and frustrated with the injury setback but will work hard to be back as quickly as possible."
Heel Problem Separate from Foot Fracture
Friday, Sept. 18
Henderson had been expected to make a first-team return during the Sept. 20 Norwich match, per Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, relayed by Tony Barrett of the Times.
He previously underwent injections on his heel in the United States, tweeted by Pearce on Sept. 16, and the problem appeared to be behind him when his fresh foot injury struck.
The 25-year-old replaced club legend Steven Gerrard as the Reds captain this season, coming off an excellent 2014-15 campaign in which he hardly missed any time and functioned as the squad's engine in midfield.
Between Lucas Leiva, Emre Can and James Milner, the talent is there now that Henderson has been forced to spend significant time on the sidelines, but Rodgers would rather have his trusty midfield general leading the troops at this early point in the season.
