Clippers, Trail Blazers Showing Interest in Chandler
Tuesday, Feb. 17
It looks as though more than one team covets Chandler and will make a push to bring him aboard before the trade deadline.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported the latest on Tuesday: "The Clippers have probed the market with Jamal Crawford to see if there's a way to acquire a first-round pick that could help them make a competitive offer to Denver for Wilson Chandler or Arron Afflalo, league sources said."
But it isn't just the Los Angeles Clippers that are interested in Chandler, per Wojnarowski, as the Portland Trail Blazers are also set to enter the fray:
"Portland has shown a stronger desire to make a deal with Denver for Wilson Chandler than Arron Afflalo, partly because Chandler is under contract next season. The Blazers have made Will Barton and Thomas Robinson, as well as a future first-rounder, available in talks for wing players, but clearly would be more motivated to sweeten a package for Chandler than Afflalo, league sources said.
"
While teams may prefer Chandler, ESPN's Marc Stein suggested that the Nuggets' asking price may be quite high:
It isn't hard to see why teams needing help on the wing would target Chandler. The 27-year-old is averaging 13.9 points and 6.0 rebounds in 31.7 minutes per game and has been one of the bright spots on a struggling Nuggets team.
While the Clippers seem unlikely to have the assets to pull the trigger, the Trail Blazers are a team to watch, and it wouldn't be surprising if a few more teams started showing interest as well.
On the other hand, if the Nuggets continue to play hardball, teams needing help on the wing may soon turn to cheaper options.
Either way, Chandler figures to be a popular topic of conversation until the deadline.
