LVG Will 'Wait and See' On Jones' Status

Manchester United's official Twitter feed reported that Louis van Gaal will "wait and see" whether Phil Jones will be able to play in the team's FA Cup match against Preston North End.

Jones Injures Knee vs. Burnley

Wednesday, Feb. 11

Manchester United's Premier League fixture against Burnley got off to a rocky start, as centre-back Phil Jones was forced to leave the pitch with an injury just minutes after the opening whistle.

The England international landed awkwardly after a duel and immediately reached for his ankle, before being taken off for Chris Smalling, per the club's official Twitter feed:

Smalling immediately scored with his first touch of the match.

After the match, Manchester United added from Louis van Gaal that it's a knee injury and that "for Jones, we have to wait and see. I think it shall be difficult as he was very disappointed when I spoke with him. Maybe it's a knee problem so it's not good."

United's back four has been hampered by injuries all season, and the club has struggled as a result, as defensive players have failed to build a rhythm or find any chemistry.

The 22-year-old Jones has seen his fair share of injuries over the course of his career, and the Sport Bible's Liam is starting to lose patience with the youngster:

With the race for the Champions League tickets as close as ever, the Red Devils can ill-afford to lose one of their top defenders for a significant amount of time. Smalling is a quality replacement, but United's back four could be one more injury away from disaster if Jones' ankle took some real damage on Wednesday.
