American Idol and the National Hockey League

Syesha was kicked off of American Idol on Wednesday after delivering better performances than both of the other contestants.

For those who don't watch American Idol, or wish they didn't (like me), let me explain. Syesha is a girl. And black.

Now, there are only two contestants left: David Cook and David Archuleta. Both male, both white.

If I was a black girl rooting for Syesha, why would I continue to watch two white men fight for something that shouldn't be theirs?

Last Sunday, the New York Rangers lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Regardless of whether or not there was some big conspiracy, the third round of the playoffs featured two Pennsylvania teams: a team that has won three Stanley Cups since 1997, and a team that won it in 1999. Both series went 3-0 before turning 3-1.

Why, as a Ranger fan, would I continue watching?

Different shows, different performers, different sports and different stages.

Same results.

Get rid of the only black performer, and they lose their ratings. Get rid of the female, and lose some of them. Get rid of the Rangers, and lose a lot of ratings.

I have personally not watched any of the Penguin/Philadelphia Flyer series. Not a second. I watched the third period of Game three of the Detroit Red Wings/Dallas Stars and the second period of Game four. That's it.

A lot has to do with work schedule, but to be honest, I haven't had much interest. The past few years, I watched with interest as the Tampa Bay Lightnings beat the Calgary Flames (I rooted for the Flames), the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Edmonton Oilers (I rooted for the Oilers), and the Anaheim Ducks beat the Ottawa Senators (I rooted for the Senators).

This year, I don't know if it is because Pittsburgh is in it, because the Rangers lose in such a disgusting controversial manner, or because the officiating is deciding games when they should just be fair. Half the Rangers' losses in the second round; tonight's "no goal" call on the Red Wings, but my viewership is down.

If the Rangers were still in, I'd watch both series keenly. But they took away my Syesha.

Are you serious? That's how the game goes. Some calls go your way, others don't its how the game is. Officiating doesn't matter. The Rangers didn't lose because they got bad calls, they lost because they got beat by a better team. There is no thought what so ever put into what people want to see, its a sport, its a game, its all about competition, it has nothing to do with what YOU want to see. The NHL doesn't care about YOU. And the NHL isn't going to lose shit because the Rangers got knocked out. Detroit which has established itself as a dynasty over the past decade has more fans nation wide than any team in the NHL and Pittsburgh with Crosby has brought thousands of people to the game of hockey in America. There is no voting in the NHL, they play a game and the better team wins, why would you even say hockey and American Idol in the same sentence?

Your article is a bit confusing but I **think** I understand what you're trying to say. I agree that officiating is deciding games and I think that game 4's in both the Pens-Rangers and Pens-Flyers series were called to make sure a Game 5 occurs. If both series ended in sweeps, the country would go without the most unpopular sport for a whole week, and that's something Bettman isn't allowed to let happen.

What the hell does this post mean? Do us all a favor, and don't associate yourself with the Rangers.
