Morgan Schneiderlin to Arsenal Rumour Emerges, Latest Gunners News

Rob BlanchetteJan 30, 2015

Morgan Schneiderlin could finally be in line to join Arsenal after French reports said the midfielder will link up with the Gunners in a £15 million summer transfer.

Colin Harvey of the Daily Star cites French newspaper L'Equipe claiming Arsene Wenger will finally capture the impressive Saints player after agreeing with Ronald Koeman to sell the international.

The rising star was linked with a move to the Emirates last summer, per James Orr of The Independent, but no deal came to fruition as Southampton sold the vast majority of its key individuals to bigger clubs.

Despite the natural disappointment of not joining his illustrious team-mates at new teams in the summer, Schneiderlin has been one of Koeman's rocks, as Southampton battle for a Champions League finish.

The Frenchman, who made his senior debut for his country last year, has featured 17 times in the EPL and FA Cup during the current campaign, scoring four times, per WhoScored.

The player is coming to the end of his seventh season with Saints after joining as a teenager from Strasbourg in 2008, and he is now ready to make the next jump in his career.

In other news, Wenger confirmed on Friday that his January transfer business has concluded on the arrival of Brazilian defender Gabriel Paulista, with Arsenal's official Twitter feed releasing a picture of the new signing in his club's colours for the first time:

Wenger has also captured Polish defensive midfield prodigy Krystian Bielik, with Sami Mokbel of the Mail Online quoting the Gunners boss proclaiming his window is over: "If I wake up in the morning and somebody’s stood in front of my door who is an exceptional player, I will open the door. It looks very unlikely now. I can give you my address if you want."

However, Jamie Sanderson of Metro confirms the Gunners are preparing a shock raid of White Hart Lane to grab Tottenham Hotspur's supremely talented stopper Hugo Lloris.

Sanderson says L'Equipe believes Wenger wants to take the 28-year-old goalkeeper from Mauricio Pochettino in a transfer that would have seismic consequences across north London.

Lloris is in superb form at present and has five clean sheets from his 22 EPL performances, per Squawka.com, with a tremendous 95 percent claim success for the season.

One player who could soon be on his way from Arsenal is perennially injured midfielder, Abou Diaby.

Amy Lawrence of the Guardian debated whether Wenger should give the player a new deal at the Emirates, saying:

"

The last couple of years for [Abou] Diaby have been a virtual write-off. This season he has played only 67 minutes of a Capital One Cup tie. Last season he managed one 16-minute substitute appearance during the entire campaign.

That is it. When he is not abroad in his persistent search for fitness he watches games at the Emirates, pops into the dressing room to see his team-mates but seldom gets close to the pitch.

"

Lawrence says Wenger is undecided about what to do with Diaby after previously admitting he would like to give the player a new deal.

Lloris would be a hugely controversial capture for Arsenal but nonetheless, a brilliant one.

Lloris is now at the top of his game and if Spurs cannot fulfil the ambition of any individual talent who deserves to be playing in the Champions League, then Wenger can grab the keeper.

Schneiderlin has now also done his time at Southampton, but this season has been hugely beneficial for him, playing and learning under Koeman, and being the club's main man.

He certainly would be comfortable in Arsenal's system of pass and move and would add tremendous energy and defensive value to the Emirates side.
