WVU Mountaineers Football: Pat White, Noel Devine, and Other Superstars in 2008

Kristopher BarrettMay 15, 2008

Ā Ā  After a let down in Morgantown in December 2007 to rival Pitt that would have gave the mountaineers a berth in the national championship game, the Mountaineer nation stumbled when head coach Rich Rodriguez announced he was headed to Ann Arbor. But, with the help of interim and soon to be named head coach Bill Stewart the Mountaineers should the nation just how great Mountaineer football was with a beat down of what some thought was the best team in the nation the Oklahoma Sooners.

Ā Ā A look a 2008 shows the Mountaineers strong a many positions, but alittle shallow in some key positions. Lets start with the Heisman Candidate Senior QB Pat White. White isĀ gonna be the leader of one of the most dangerous offenses in the nation, and with help from Sophomore Noel Devine the mountaineers rushing attack should be near the top of the nation in rushing yards. After seeing the teams speedy receiver graduate the mountaineers are looking to some Sophomore talent to shine in WR Brandon Hogan, and WR Jock Sanders, which both seen some legit playing time last season. The Mountaineers are also looking six foot eight junior wide out Wes Lyons to come out and surprise the nation. At the offensive line position senior center Mike Dent who was named to the Rimington list hopes to anchor that line that will protect senior playmaker Pat White.

Ā  On the Defensive side of the ball, alot of new faces will be on the field for the Mountaineers, who will hope to make an impact, but some players that who will make impacts due to play last year are Defensive Lineman Scooter Berry who is looked to be the leader of the defense. Along side Berry will be sophomore Chris Neild, who backed up Kielin Dykes last season, is looking to become a great pass rusher for the mountaineers. Starting middle linebacker Reed Williams who was the tostitos defensive player of the game, and looks to be the big run pass stopper in the middle of that defense. Senior Linebacker Mortty Ivy looks to improve from last season after moving to the Sam Linebacker position. The Secondary looks to be some what strong with outstanding cover corner Ellis Lankster, who showed improvement this spring while learning more of the west Virginia defensive ways. The mountaineers hope to rebound from all of the big loses from last season and become more of a unit in 2008.
