March Of The Spurs: Can't Stop This Feelin'

Can you feel it?  As the season creeps ever so slowly toward us, can you feel the energy?  Just in case you were living under a rock for the past couple of months, we now have Jefferson.  Feeling it now?

No not George Jefferson, (it would be nice to have someone on the team walk like GJ) but Richard Jefferson.  20 points a game Jefferson.  No not Thomas Jefferson, although he could be an ancestor, But Olympian Richard Jefferson of the .439% field gold percentage.

Spurs Basketball is back in a big, big way.

If Richard Jefferson was the only reason to get exited about the new season, then I would be happy.  But wait, there's more.

Need another big man?  How about Theo Ratliff, good enough?  OK, how about Antonio McDyess from Detroit?  That's right, we got 'em.

Now I'm pumped.  But wait, there's more.  How about a draft gift from the NBA gods, DeJaun Blair.  This Manster from Pitt, fell to 37 in the NBA draft, and the Spurs were more than happy to scoop him up.  Blair's got good size, 6'7" and has a massive wingspan.  His best asset, rebounding, something that was sorely missed late last season.  There is also Jack McClinton, who had a rough time at the summer league, but then again, so did George Hill last year and look how mature George is now.

I'm very happy with the additions.  The core of San Antonio starts off with Timmy D, a top 50 player, and one of the most dominating forces still around.  Tony Parker is the "French Connection", the "Speed Demon" and the MVP of the Finals in 2007, when he asked Lebron if the King "Believed".  Sweeping the Cavs was Tony's main focus, as he was the one unstoppable force that the Cavs could not handle.  Then there's Manu.  It's true, without Manu, the Spurs appeared normal.  During the first round exit, he was sorely missed, allowing Dallas the ability to score and not concern themselves with Manu's penetration.  If the Spurs are Optimus Prime, then Manu is the matrix that flashes in the chest.  (Only die hard transformer fans will get that reference, and not the atrocious Michael Bay version.)

With the core set in and healthy and the new additions raring to go, let's not forget about the X-factors.  These guys can be deadly.  Roger Mason Jr.  This guy should have a nick name, the "Dagger", the "Closer" something that supports the amount of last second heroics he performed last year.  "Bullseye" (help us come up with an surefire nickname for Roger in our comment section)  Matt Bonner impressed last year with his percentage of threes.  I really like the extra effort that Bonner brings to the table.  The "Red Rocket" should improve with the overall experience he has picked up.  George Hill and Michael Finley, one young and one old.  Both have the ability to contribute on the fly, both can get the job done.

There you have it Spurs Fans!  2009-2010 should be a season to remember.  There's definitely a lot of excitement in San Antonio.

Can you feel it?
