UFC 182: 4 Reasons to Watch Jones vs. Cormier Fight Card
The wait is finally over. The biggest fight that should have taken place in 2013 will kick things off for the UFC in 2015.
I of course am referring to Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier. That fight, which headlines UFC 182, tops an absolutely stacked card.
Also on show are names including Donald Cerrone, Hector Lombard and Nate Marquardt. That type of star power is bound to attract eyes from all over.
Need a reason to watch? How about I give you four reasons to check this card out Saturday night.
The Biggest Fight in the Last Few Years
1 of 4
Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier will be the biggest fight the UFC has put on in several years.
Their beef is extremely real.
Watch any interview. Watch their press conference scuffle. Watch anything which shows the two interacting with one another.
These two really don't like each other, and it's obvious.
Cormier may also pose the biggest threat to Jones' title reign thus far. He is constantly improving, a superior wrestler and a large man. That will make this encounter tough for the champ.
Win or lose, this will attract a wide audience. It's why selling a fight is so important in MMA.
Dark-Horse Contenders at 155
2 of 4
When you talk about challengers to Anthony Pettis, you immediately think of Rafael dos Anjos and Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, the co-main event of UFC 182 may allow another guy to jump toward the front of the line.
Myles Jury and Donald Cerrone are two of the best lightweights in the world, and they will be fighting one another. On the line is a high spot in the 155-pound division, where Anthony Pettis is king and there are some high-profile challengers.
So Cerrone and Jury are jockeying for position. The winner puts his name in the circle while the loser scurries to regain leverage.
Horiguchi's Road to the Title
3 of 4
The flyweight division is lacking contenders at this point. However, a fighter by the name of Kyoji Horiguchi has a chance to jump ahead of the pack at UFC 178.
Horiguchi, who is undefeated in the UFC, takes on Louis Gaudinot on the main card. A win for the Japanese fighter would be huge for his career, as it would push him up the UFC ranks and possibly into title contention.
He is really under the radar, but he is definitely a fingertip away. An impressive showing could push him far beyond the pack.
Ex-Bellator Champ vs. Ex-WSOF Headliner
4 of 4
Hector Lombard is a current UFC fighter with a Bellator championship in his past. Josh Burkman is a UFC fighter with a UFC past that just got out of World Series of Fighting.
This should be interesting.
Lombard is one of the best welterweights in the world and seemingly nobody wants to fight him. Burkman's willingness, in unison with his upset of Jon Fitch last year, makes this an interesting affair.
Add to the fact that Lombard is a dark horse for title contention at 170, and you have yourself a fight to watch.
