Bennett Quarantined Due to Mumps Symptoms
Monday, Dec. 15
Wes Crosby of NHL.com initially reported the news of Bennett showing symptoms of Mumps, citing Pens general manager Jim Rutherford:
Rutherford commented on the situation, via Pittsburgh's official Twitter account:
Bennett, 23, was selected in the first round of the 2010 NHL draft by the Penguins and has slowly carved out a role. In seven games played this season, Bennett has one goal and two assists. He hasn't played since Nov. 24 due to a lower-body injury.
This news regarding Bennett showing symptoms for mumps might have a farther-reaching impact, however. He recently visited a children's hospital where several of the children are being tested, via Josh Yohe of the Tribune-Review:
The outbreak has been a troubling one for the league, with Bennett's teammate Sidney Crosby also diagnosed over the weekend, per Katie Strang of ESPN.com.
Not having both players on the ice will have a huge impact for Pittsburgh, particularly on the offensive end. The primary concern at this point, though, will obviously be on their overall health.
