Oh no, not another story about the Cleveland Browns QB competition. I can hear you because I've said the same thing many times. Hopefully Mangini will make his decision as soon as possible and we can put this DA vs Quinn thing behind us. I've put off voicing my opinion but here goes.
Does DA really have much of a chance to win the job or does Quinn have to fall on his face? From what I've seen of DA the last couple of seasons there are things I really like about him. I like his strong arm and his quick release. Despite being slow and awkward looking at times he doesn't get sacked much. He makes quick decisions, maybe not always the right decisions but they are quick. DA has youth on his side, he just turned 26 so there is plenty of room for improvement. Hey he's already made the Pro Bowl.
Like I said I've watched Anderson very closely in all 31 regular season games he's played for the Browns plus the preseason. DA has one weakness I just can't get past, his confidence can go up and down like a yo-yo. I noticed it in his QB battle with Charlie Fry, the last half of the 2007 season, the Pro Bowl game and in many games last year. DA doesn't handle pressure well. That is not a good attribute for a QB in the NFL. How do you teach confidence? It has to affect his leadership as well. If I can see this I'm sure Mangini has.
Getting back to Quinn. Brady is mobile and seems to have the confidence and leadership Mangini is looking for in his QB. Mangini said huddle presence, leadership and taking care of the football are all characteristics he's looking for in his QB. Seems to fit Quinn. I read where the Browns QBs were doing drills throwing on the run. Seems to fit Quinn. I've also read where Brady has looked sharp in the short passing game. Again, not a DA strength. As training camp moves along will the pressure get to DA?
I'm not saying Brady Quinn is the answer but it sure looks like everything is geared towards him winning this QB battle. For the Browns sake I hope it gets settled sooner than later.
