Breaking Down The Huntington Beach Badboy's Re-Signing With The UFC

Time and time again the poster boys of the UFC always manage to fall right back into the greedy little fingers of the monster that Zuffa is. Most recently is the notorious porn-star married , father of twins, the Huntington Beach Bad Boy; Tito Ortiz. Personally, I don't hate Tito he has the muscle to hustle attitude and sells himself in whatever way possible including a stint on The Apprentice (although he didn't earn much camera time, perhaps it's because his head would have taken up the whole frame).

Tito Ortiz also owns Punishment Athletics and a little fact about Team Punishment is that they do not sell their clothes to online retailers. That means you have to support the local gyms or shops that choose to carry their line. Clearly they could make more money but selling out to online outlets while also increasing their exposure but they do not. An ideal that is hardly embraced in the industry as everyone and their baby has a TapouT shirt on now because they've become the new cool. Thanks Tito for not selling out.

In case you are not aware Tito's last win was 10/10/2006 against Ken "I'm going to beat you into a living death" Shamrock. Clearly not a top 25 opponent who cut his own eye to avoid a beat down from youtube sensation Kimbo Slice (This statement is not verified and a joke.) His last bout was against the new champion Lyoto Machida and although he almost won via triangle choke in round three (needed a little more hip rotation), Tito still has not won a fight in over two years. The main reasons from what I've gathered for Tito leaving the UFC is the prospect of greener pastures and a "feud" with Dana White.

Why is it the top stars like Couture have a war of words with the polarizing White but then somehow manage to amend their differences as soon as they sign? If only Liddell could loosen his choker collar that White has tight around his neck and could make some of his own decisions about his fighting future then we'd see another "feud" with White.

I guess what I'm getting at with this article is this, although Strikeforce is a viable contender in the future no one has anywhere near the exposure of the UFC. The UFC brand is synonymous with Mixed Martial Arts just like if you need to blow your nose you use a kleenex not a tissue. Tito resigned with the UFC because his fans recognize him here and I'm sure his deal involved a percentage of pay-per-view buys. Set him up with a recognizable gatekeeper of the light heavyweight division maybe someone like Mark the Hammer Coleman and then market a super fight between someone like a Wanderlei Silva.

Will Tito ever achieve the almost fighting greatness he once held? No, if anyone has watched MMA in the past couple months the progression of fighters is absolutely astounding i.e. Jon "Bones" Jones and Tito simply cannot keep up. Thanks Tito you've entertained us and destroyed Ken Shamrock on more then one occasion. You also showed us your cheesy television personality on more then one reality show. Now I just hope since you've signed back with the UFC you can win more then one fight every three years.
