4 Remaining Free Agents Who Are Perfect Fits for Mets
Now that December has arrived, the annual winter meetings are next up for the New York Mets and the other MLB teams. At that time, all the general managers will meet up and discuss potential signings and trades with each other for a few days.
This could be when the Mets discuss possible trades with other teams and decide whether they should trade for a shortstop, among other positions. They may even inquire on other general trade possibilities just to gauge the market and see what it looks like right now. It's too early to tell if anything will definitely happen on the Mets' end, so it will be fascinating to see what ends up happening.
But in case nothing occurs for the Mets at the winter meetings, they could still look at free agency to fill any remaining needs. Here are four current free agents who could be great fits with the Mets.
Sergio Romo

The Mets' only real need from free agency at this point would probably be one more reliever to fill out the bullpen. One veteran option could be Sergio Romo.
Romo has spent his entire seven-year career with the San Francisco Giants and was part of three World Series teams in that span. He has closing experience as well in the past three seasons.
Romo is likely to seek a closing role on the open market. The Mets, though, have closing options of their own between Bobby Parnell, Jenrry Mejia and Jeurys Familia. However, Romo has a lot of postseason experience and quite a bit of experience as a closer.
If he does not seek a particularly high-paying contract, Romo could be a good fit with the Mets and would give them a very good veteran reliever in what is a young bullpen.
Luke Gregerson

Another veteran right-handed relief option to consider is Luke Gregerson.
Gregerson spent the first five seasons of his career with the San Diego Padres and last season with the Oakland A's. Unlike Romo, he does not have any real closing experience, but he would still be a very good option as a middle reliever or setup man.
Gregerson's ERA has been under 3.00 in each of the past four seasons, and with Citi Field being a pitcher's park, there's every reason to believe he would pitch just as well for the Mets.
Craig Breslow
3 of 4
If the Mets decide to sign a left-handed reliever, one option could be Craig Breslow. The Mets currently have just one left-handed reliever in their bullpen in Josh Edgin and could certainly use a second southpaw in the bullpen.
In fact, the Mets have already expressed interest in Breslow, according to Jon Morosi of Fox.
"#Mets have shown interest in free-agent LH reliever Craig Breslow, sources say.

Breslow was part of the Boston Red Sox's championship team in 2013 and has spent time over the years with the San Diego Padres, Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins, Oakland A's and Arizona Diamondbacks as well. He would be a very good addition with his proven track record, and it will be interesting to see if the Mets' recent interest will lead to something happening.
Tom Gorzelanny
4 of 4
If the pursuit of Craig Breslow does not end up working out, another option among left-handed relievers is Tom Gorzelanny.
Gorzelanny has spent time with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals. He then spent the past two seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers. He clearly has a lot of National League experience and is someone the Mets should keep in mind if they want another southpaw in the bullpen.
