Injuries continue to pile up for the Seattle Seahawks' defense. The newest victim is defensive tackle Brandon Mebane.
The anchor of Seattle's defensive line left Sunday's contest against the New York Giants with a hamstring injury, and according to the team's official Twitter feed, he won't return:
Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio KJR added more details after Seattle's win:
The defending Super Bowl champs have a lot of stars on the defensive side of the ball, but Mebane is one who typically flies under the radar. This is a massive blow for the 'Hawks, who are also without linebacker Bobby Wagner and safety Kam Chancellor, among others.
Mebane has been one of the team's best players all season. He's a large reason for their stingy rush defense, and he is consistently getting penetration on the interior.
With the depth at the position low, Pete Carroll and his staff will look to Jordan Hill to fill the 29-year-old's humongous shoes.
No matter how long Mebane is out, losing him is a major blow to a team with aspirations of competing for a second straight Super Bowl.
