Brewers 5, Cardinals 3: Ryan Braun Goes Yard Twice for Home Victory

The Cardinals saw a score reversal from Saturday afternoon today, losing 5-3 this time, rather than a 5-3 win.

It sure would have been nice for Adam Kennedy to get on base to see what Albert Pujols could have done with two on in the ninth.

But the real killer for the Cards was Brewers slugger Ryan Braun.  Sure we know he can rake, but he jacked two over the fence to give the Brewers a home victory.

Who played well?

Chris Duncan

Going 2-3 at the dish is looking pretty good for Duncan, who's only hitting .265 for the year.

Troy Glaus

Talk about 2-3.  Glaus is only hitting .232 this season, so to get a leadoff double in the top of the ninth, for example, puts him on the playing well list.

Who played poorly?

Braden Looper

This is not what the Cards needed: 6 IP, 4 ER.  Looper, who had been consistent all season, saw his ERA jump to 4.21.

Adam Kennedy

Going 1-5, including grounding out to end the ballgame, leaving Pujols on deck doesn't look good.  It would have at least been nice to see if Pujols could have driven a couple home to tie up the game.

Neither good nor bad?

Albert Pujols

Sure he got caught stealing in the first inning, but going 1-2 with 2 BBs is some good work.  Just as an aside, he extended his on-base streak to 39, the most to start a season since Jeter had 53.

Ryan Ludwick

Yeah, look at the box score and you'll see he struck out three times.  Look more closely, and you will see he hit another home run, bringing his season total to eight, and it put the Cards down two at the time.
