Updates from Thursday, Oct. 30

Jennifer Portman and Sean Rossman of the Tallahassee Democrat reported on the origins of the investigation into Karlos Williams:

"

The domestic battery case of Florida State University running back Karlos Williams started when FSU general counsel Carolyn Egan emailed a screenshot of a Facebook post to Tallahassee Police Chief Michael DeLeo Saturday.

The post was said to be made by Williams' pregnant girlfriend. It includes three pictures of a bruised arm with text that says, 'Domestic violence in NEVER okay. And I have learned why women keep secrets and scared (sic) to come forward. I'm ashamed to say I did the same thing. But I am ready to speak up for women in situations like myself,' the message said.

The subject of Egan's email was 'K. Williams' and was sent at 4:10 p.m.

'Please take all steps you deem appropriate to investigate this matter,' she said. 'We stand ready to assist in whatever way possible and, in the very near future, will have to take steps of our own to meet our campus security obligations.'

Warchant.com reports the latest on Williams' status for Thursday's game:

On Tuesday, the attorney for the alleged victim in the Karlos Williams investigation said he's requested that authorities stop the inquiry into the Florida State running back, via Sean Rossman of the Tallahassee Democrat:

"

Tallahassee attorney Nathan Prince said he has informally told TPD to stop the investigation and today will formally submit a request terminate it. His client, he said, will not talk to investigators, has not filed a complaint and did not notify TPD or FSU about any alleged domestic battery incident.

(...)

Prince said he doesn't believe there will be probable cause for Williams' arrest since there will be no witness testimony. He wouldn't comment on whether his client believes she was the victim of domestic violence or if she was harmed in a domestic violence incident.

"She doesn't want to make any comments on the facts of the case," Prince told the Democrat. "There aren't any witnesses that have provided testimony."

Prince said he believes someone alerted FSU and authorities after internet rumors started this weekend that Williams' girlfriend had been battered.

Florida State running back Karlos Williams is currently under investigation for a domestic battery allegation following an incident Saturday night, the Tallahassee Police Department has confirmed.

"TPD received the case on Saturday night, October 25th, 2014 and it was immediately assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division," a statement on the police department's Facebook page read. "The alleged crime is an active on-going investigation and Florida Law does not allow TPD to discuss the details of any case while it is on-going."

Mark Schlabach and Brett McMurphy of ESPN.com later provided a statement from FSU addressing the investigation:

"

Williams, a senior from Davenport, Florida, is being investigated for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, who lives with him and is pregnant with the couple's second child, according to people familiar with the investigation.

'The athletics department is aware of an investigation by the Tallahassee Police Department involving football student-athlete Karlos Williams,' the school said in a statement. '"Until we receive more information regarding the alleged incident his status with the team will be under review.'

"

Williams was also at Florida State's practice on Monday, via Corey Clark of the Tallahassee Democrat:

The investigation comes just days after rumors claiming Williams was suspended came to light. As noted by Brendan Sonnone of the Orlando Sentinel, Jacksonville radio personality Rick Ballou first reported and then backtracked from claims the Seminoles back was being suspended. Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher also denied the reports Friday.

"There's another false report, and that's amazing how things happen," Fisher said. "Whoever has sources, whoever has rumors, needs to check who they are talking to—because that is about as far from truth as there is."

Sonnone later provided more details on the case:

Williams, a senior, is the team's leading rusher with 378 yards and seven touchdowns. A converted safety, Williams has struggled as a lead back in 2014 compared to last season. His yards-per-carry average is down to 4.6 from 8.0 last season, and he's failed to break a run longer than 28 yards. As a junior, Williams posted three runs of 45-plus yards.

The Seminoles play at Louisville on Thursday night in arguably the toughest game remaining on their schedule. Williams declined to comment on the case through his attorney, Tim Jansen, per Sean Rossman of the Tallahassee Democrat.
