Strikeforce Carano VS Cyborg Loses Another Title Fight

Mike LeanzaJul 24, 2009

According to MMAjunkie.com Nick Diaz Vs Joe "Diesel" Riggs has been scratched from the August 15th Strikeforce card.

This fight was set to crown the first Strikeforce Welterweight champion, and was originally one of three title fights on the card.

Riggs reportedly had an extended hospital stay to what has been called a "bad reaction to an as of yet undisclosed drug". This fight was a chance for the red hot Diaz to get revenge for a Unanimous Decision loss in 2006 for the UFC.

Giannis Deal Expected by Draft

Strikeforce executive Mike Aframowitz confirmed that a replacement was being searched for and was not able to confirm or deny whether the Welterweight title will still be on the line if a replacement was found.

It was reported and confirmed earlier this week that Alistair Overeem would not be able to defend his Strikeforce Heavyweight championship due a recurring hand injury. A replacement is currently being sought to fight Fabricio Werdum at the event.

This is another devastating blow to what could have been a "Card of The Year" candidate.

It has also been a very rough week for the hadrcore MMA fans around the world. Not only have Overeem and Riggs had to back out of title fights, Josh Barnett was forced out of his fight with number one Heavyweight Fedor Emelienenko due to testing positive for steroids.

But that's not all. Affliction:Trilogy, the third monstrous fight card hosted by Affliction, was cancelled all together. This leaves big names like Fedor, Renato Sobral, Gegard Mousasi, Jorge Santiago, and many others without a fight and keeps them out of the public eye.

But wait, theres more. Affliction has decided to close its doors and completely stop promoting fights all together. They will instead become clothing sponsors for the UFC.

It is still unknown what will happen with the plethora of stars Affliction had under contract, but if the MMA Gods are reading this, please bring Fedor to the UFC. It's the least you can do to make up for all these cancellations.
