Los Angeles Dodgers vs. St. Louis Cardinals Game 4: Live Score, NLDS Highlights

Jason CataniaOct 7, 2014

Call it deja vu all over again.

For the second consecutive year, the St. Louis Cardinals ended the Los Angeles Dodgers' postseason in dramatic, unexpected fashion.

And for the third straight time, the Cardinals beat ace Clayton Kershaw, the National League Cy Young favorite and potential MVP, in a postseason game.

After surprisingly smacking Kershaw around in Game 6 of last year's NLCS and Game 1 of this NLDS, St. Louis knocked the left-hander out in the seventh inning of Wednesday's Game 4 when Matt Adams—a lefty hitter who has managed just six of his 34 career regular-season home runs against southpaws—hit the game-winning three-run homer.

Making the come-from-behind win that much more unbelievable? Kershaw had completely shut down the Cardinals through six innings, allowing just one hit with nine strikeouts—all on three days' rest, no less.

On the broadcast afterward, Matt Carpenter, who went 6-for-15 with three homers and doubles apiece in the series, had this to say of Kershaw's stuff and Adams' heroics:

"

I have to tip my cap to [Kershaw]. On three days' rest, the stuff he had today was nothing short of incredible. We had one hit into [the seventh] inning, and he was as good as I've ever seen him.

...We knew at some point fatigue would set in. We were able to get a couple of singles, and then he just left one pitch up to [Adams], who hit it out of the park.

"

"We never give up," Adams said in his post-game interview on the field. "No matter how many runs down...we're always going to play hard and go after it."

Indeed, the Cardinals now get to go after it by heading to the NLCS for a fourth straight time.

That's what's called deja vu all over again, all over again.

FINAL SCORE: Dodgers 2 - 3 Cardinals
