Overbearing Seth Rollins Is the Key to Randy Orton's Face Turn

Erik BeastonOct 1, 2014

From the moment Seth Rollins joined The Authority as its new golden boy, it was only a matter of time before the egotistical young star who referred to himself as "The Architect" responsible for the success of The Shield began rubbing his peers in the most powerful faction in WWE the wrong way.

On the September 29 episode of Raw, it became abundantly clear that Randy Orton was tired of being forced into scenarios where he was expected to clean up Rollins' messes. He even said as much.

Of course, Stephanie McMahon was quick to put him in his place, but it is only a matter of time before the schism that is forming within The Authority becomes an inoperable compound fracture that leads to the return of a Viper that Triple H, Stephanie and Rollins are ill-prepared to handle.

Despite an incredibly lazy post-SummerSlam showing by WWE Creative, they have managed to strike gold with the Orton storyline.

No matter how hated he may be at this point, fans still respect him for all of his contributions over the last decade. Don't believe me? Listen to the crowd when his music hits. Go to a live event and experience the pop the man receives, despite being the biggest heel on the show.

The fact of the matter is that Orton is still incredibly popular. There is no better way to instigate a full-fledged babyface turn, even after all of the dastardly things The Viper has done, than to have him be the one to step up and shut up the cocky, arrogant, yapping Rollins.

Doing so would immediately result in Orton becoming one of the top two or three babyfaces in the company again, thus adding stability to that side of the roster in the wake of Roman Reigns' hernia surgery and subsequent absence.

WWE needs as many draws as possible, both of the sake of live event attendance and television ratings. Orton is most certainly that and can greater benefit the company as a babyface than just another heel lost in the shuffle.

More importantly, Orton's selflessness when it comes to putting younger talent over would greatly benefit Rollins, even more so than working with industry icon John Cena.

Rollins would get to shine without having to play punching bag to the superman comeback, while Orton would benefit, from a crowd response standpoint, from working with on of the most over heels in the entire business.

If Monday's episode of Raw taught us anything, it is that the Seth Rollins character is not only wearing on Cena and Dean Ambrose, he is also irritating Orton, who will not hesitate to drop Mr. Money in the Bank with an RKO and bask in the ovation of the audience when the time comes.
