Austin Struggling to Live Up to Expectations in NFL
Austin has yet to fully show the dynamism that turned him into a marquee star at West Virginia. The combination of erratic quarterback play and Jeff Fisher's unadventurous coaching style has played a role in preventing the 25-year-old from fulfilling his potential.
Austin made some progress in 2015, catching 52 passes for 473 yards and five touchdowns while also rushing for 434 yards and four touchdowns. Football Outsiders, however, ranked him last among qualified wide receivers in DYAR (defense-adjusted yards above replacement).
In 2016, Austin has accumulated 401 yards and three touchdowns on 44 receptions. He's also rushed for 91 yards on 19 carries.
There's still time for Austin to reach his potential in the NFL, but it won't happen until the Rams start playing more to his strengths and finding new ways to get him more involved in the offense. The hope will be that he'll develop chemistry with rookie quarterback Jared Goff.
