Just when you thought the race in the AL East was heating up, the flames just got some gasoline poured on them.

Here’s the scoop from Peter Abraham’s LOHUD Blog:

"Red Sox owner John Henry is a smart guy. He played hedge funds to make a fortune, picked Theo Epstein to be his GM and put seats on top of the Green Monster. He just married a woman half his age.

So why was he on Twitter (John_W_Henry) posting this tonight?

News from Yankees’ Universe. Big upsurge in membership. Apparently coming mostly from Pluto. Not doing nearly as well on Mars.

Seriously? Your team is in first place (for now) and you’re making cracks on the Yankees for having a fan club they modeled after Red Sox Nation?

Note to Hal Steinbrenner: Leave Twitter to Hank. Take the high road."

You hear that John Henry?  We aren’t sending out our negotiator Hal; prepare yourself for the one man wrecking crew we Yankee fans like to call Hank Steinbrenner.

This is your time Hank, we have been waiting all season for you to speak and there is no better time than now.

I also hope John Henry realizes the “Yankees Universe” T-shirts are sold to raise money for the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Foundation and most Yankee fans have never uttered the phrase “I am a member of the Yankees Universe.”

Back down now John, Hank’s coming out with guns ablaze.
