Floyd Mayweather Claims He Will Retire After Fight in September 2015

Floyd Mayweather is aiming for 49-0. 

During a press conference in advance of Saturday's rematch against Marcos Maidana, the 37-year-old, undefeated, pound-for-pound champ revealed his plan to round out his career, via ESPN's Dan Rafael:

Obviously, there are unforeseen circumstances that could certainly alter the course of action. If he loses one of those bouts, he could either call it quits early or seek a rematch that would potentially extend his career.

The list of available fighters will also help dictate his future decisions, as could the allure of getting win No. 50, which would one-up the legendary Rocky Marciano.

For now, though, you can plan on seeing one of the greatest defensive fighters of all time inside the ring for three more fights. 

Of course, "Money" would be wise not to start looking too far ahead, as he has quite the challenge in front of him. 

Last May, Maidana gave the champ one of the most competitive fights of his dominant career. Given next to no shot before the bell rang, the challenger bullied Mayweather into the ropes, firing off as many punches as possible. 

He eventually wore down, but Maidana ended the night with 221 punches landed (the most ever against Money in his 37 fights tracked by CompuBox), giving Mayweather some fits prior to the majority-decision outcome. 

"El Chino," via Yahoo Sports' Kevin Iole, knows he rightfully earned the rematch:

I think that I got the rematch because it was a close fight. It was a close fight. He probably wants to prove a point. He wants to demonstrate that he can beat me outright. It doesn't really matter. What matters is that the rematch is happening, and I'm very happy.

"

Still, Mayweather is a legend for a reason, and he is favored to push his record to 47-0. 

If that happens and if we are to believe his comments on Tuesday, that would leave two remaining fights in 2015. Fans will likely clamor for the first to pit him against Amir Khan, followed by a dream finale against Manny Pacquiao, which would make for a record-setting draw—and it wouldn't be close. 

Either way, enjoy watching Mayweather in the ring this weekend, because it's becoming clear you won't get many more opportunities.
