Gortat Isn't All Too Happy As Magic Match Mavs' Offer Sheet

The Orlando Magic’s offseason has been stellar. They’ve added Vince Carter, lured Brandon Bass from Dallas, and even screwed the Mavericks over by matching their offer sheet to retain Marcin Gortat. This is enough for some to crown the Magic paper champs for the upcoming season.

While some are celebrating, there’s one individual that’s not too happy about one of those moves made by the Magic. That individual is Marcin Gortat.

Gortat had his heart set on starting for the Mavericks, but that won’t happen now. The 6-foot-11, 240-pound center is visiting his native Poland, and he learned about the news in a phone conversation Monday with his agent, Guy Zucker.

Zucker said his client was “very disappointed.”

“This is nothing against Orlando,” Zucker said. “He’s not going to beat out Dwight Howard for a starting job anytime soon and not for a lack of trying. Dwight Howard, most people would agree, is the No. 1 center in the world. He’d hoped that Orlando would allow him to accept this opportunity to be able to walk his own path and discover his true potential and measure himself against the best players in the game as a starter.”

With Hedo Turkoglu gone, why can’t the Magic start Howard and Gortat together? This allows Rashard Lewis to move back to his natural position at small forward and you have more of an traditional lineup. And with two big threats in the middle, it will be very hard for teams to blanket Dwight Howard like they did this past season. This could be a win-win for both parties involved. But alas, SVG is at the helm.
