I'M Just Saying: Our Starting Five Should Look Like This

The All Star Game is over. The N.L lost again, and even though I wanted the N.L to win I am happy to go back to watching Mets Games.

This Thursday we go to Atlanta to start a 4 game series that very well could be one of the biggest series of the year in terms of staying alive. Some would say the Mets are done and that the Phillies will run away with the division. I am not one of these people.

I think our team still needs a roster change or two. Even though I think Omar has made a good deal in acquiring Jeff "Frenchy" Francoeur I think there is more to be done.

However the Starting rotation worries me more than the lineup which I think is pretty good with Pagan and Francoeur in it. The management of this team is totally mishandling the starting five.

First I would get rid of Livan hernandez. Put him in the Minors and bring up Jon Niese. I know that Livan started out good this year and they want to give him at least one more start, but this team is not in the position to experiment with games, and Jon Niese is tearing the Minors to shreds. Our five can be Santana, Pelfrey, Perez, Niese and Nieve untill Maine gets back.

If both Niese and Nieve are doing good and have had only solid starts then I say leave Maine in the Minors untill one of them starts losing it. It would give Maine time to work out some kinks in his mechanics. Then when Maine feels good send down the weaker of the two.

We have to start acting with more urgency. We can either be back in the hunt very quickly or out of it quickly, lets hope Omar can get some more help soon.
