Last week panic struck Blazer fans when they found out that negotiations between Brandon Roy and the Blazer organization had skidded to a halt.

Speculation began to fester, and it soon escalated with exaggerated statements from John Canzano regarding Roy's perspective on the matter. People wondered why the team hadn't locked up our superstar player.

Even the calmest of customers were a little curious.

Today, Canzano enlightened us with a more concrete and reasonable explanation of why negotiations have stalled.

Apparently the reason for this whole scenario is Roy's request for a 5th year player option. This is something that many of the very elite players in the league ask for and ultimately receive.

Asking for a player-option may seem like a knock against the Blazers, but it's really just an opportunity for Roy to re-evaluate after the fourth year.

He'll decide if he wants to come back at that time, and if the Blazers are still competitive, I don't see an issue.

Pretty simple solution here.

Give Roy what he wants.

Besides his stellar play on the court, he's brought the entire community back, and everything about Roy fits the positive vibes of a rejuvenated organization.

I'm not sitting in on the negotiations but I believe Roy is the No. 1 key to success for this team and this city.

Perhaps once Utah matches our offer to Millsap, the team can lock up Roy and move on.
