Frenchmen V.2 Player Recap: Johan Petro

08 Season Stats: 6ppg 5.1rpg 0.4apg
Best Game: Jan.09 @ New Jersey Nets--Game Line 22pts 9rebounds 3blocks
Johan Petro is still struggling to find his identity in the Sonics organization. His experience this season has paved the away for improvement in his core skills and game knowledge. However, he still seems unsure and hesitant at times. His lack of confidence can be seen in his poor defense and poor shot selection. Sometimes I would find myself yelling at the T.V when Petro drove to the basket and didn't finish or failed to find one of his fellow teammates on the other side of the paint.
Petro needs to have improvements in the rebounding area of his game and his defense. He'll block a lot of shots, but he consistently gets out-muscled by players like Tim Duncan or Amare Stoudamire. Johan will eventually need to add some bulk to his body to be able to defend post-players in the league effectively. He is really slow on his feet as well, so strength training should be an emphasized point in his off-season.
I don't see Petro as a viable starter when compared to someone like Nick Collision. At times Petro, didn't seem like he fit well with other players like Jeff Green and Kevin Durant. With that said, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being dealt before draft day, considering our depth at center, and the up-and-coming Saer Sene.
