Despite a layoff from the ring that lasted more than 10 years, Stephanie McMahon was able to defeat Brie Bella on Sunday night at SummerSlam.
McMahon hadn’t wrestled since No Mercy 2003.
WrestlingINC.com broke down the wild finish:
Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel snapped a pic of the action:
NXT Diva Joseann Offerman wasn't a fan of how everything went down:
The feud between these two women dates back to WWE Payback when Brie quit the WWE and slapped McMahon over the treatment of her husband Daniel Bryan. Following Brie’s departure from the company, McMahon made it her duty to stack the odds against the other Bella Twin, Nikki, on every occasion possible.
The storyline took off when Brie was visiting Raw to support her sister on July 21 and McMahon came down to ringside and slapped her. Brie pressed charges with the local police and McMahon was arrested on live television.
Triple H and Stephanie came out the following week and asked for Brie to drop the charges, but Brie wouldn’t do so without being rehired and getting a match at SummerSlam against one of the principle owners of the WWE.
Brie got her wish, but it didn’t turn out how she expected.
Despite the loss, this will be far from the end of this feud. During the go-home edition of Raw, McMahon introduced Daniel Bryan’s physical therapist Megan Miller to the storyline.
Miller claims that she had an affair with Bryan, but this is clearly a ploy from The Authority to distract Brie and create some drama between the couple. Brie slapped Miller in the ring after the accusations and was arrested later that night before her scheduled match with McMahon.
It was a clever move by McMahon to get revenge for the same embarrassment and likely sets the stage for another match between these two women at Night of Champions in September.
After a solid match at SummerSlam, Round 2 should be exciting.
