We are only in the second week of July, with almost 100 days till training camp.  We have witnessed more player movement on the Mavericks roster than in past seasons

No. 1 on the Mavericks to do list this summer, was to quickly resolve the question of who will be the starting point guard. They did so by re-signing Jason Kidd.

Kidd's re-signing was a bigger battle than the Mavericks anticipated.  For the New York Knicks fought for Kidd's affections, as well.

The most the Knicks could offer was a three-year deal, worth $18 million.  The Knicks were betting to lure Kidd away from Dallas, for less money.

They were also counting on his past relationship with coach D'Antoni.  Being teamed together for the Beijing Olympics.

The Knicks were also betting Kidd would jump at a chance to be near his three young  sons.  Sorry...they were wrong.

Let me refresh everyone's memory here.  The real reason Kidd didn't go east, is because of his ex-wife.

I am referring to the very violently public divorce of Kidd and his then wife, the mother of this children.  She said he beat her, he claimed she beat him.   Domestic violence is a very sad thing, especially when children are involved.

This is what started Kidd's campaign to be traded out of New Jersey in the first place.  Kidd was wanting to be as far away from New Jersey as he could.

Even L.A. sounded nice and quiet for Kidd.  Fortunately for us Mavericks fans, he landed in Dallas.

So unless Kidd and his ex-wife had made some kind of peace agreement, for the sake of their children, his going back to live there was a bad idea.

Thankfully for the Mavericks, Kidd went with the team with bigger purse-strings.  The Mavericks' deal is $25 million, over three years.  Almost guaranteeing Kidd retiring as a Dallas Maverick.

Adding to their depth at the point guard position, the Mavericks drafted Rodrique Beaubois.  Giving Kidd another student to pass his knowledge of the game too.

Need I remind everyone what Kidd did with JJ Berea, last season?  The present and future of the Mavericks point guards are now in Kidd's Hall of Fame hands.
