Hockey, NHL, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, Dallas Stars, Preview/Prediction

It's Monday. We shouldn't be excited about that. We should be like those guys in the movie Office Space.

But in some cubicles, people are getting jacked for what could be arguably one of the best finishes in Stanley Cup History. Here now is the preview of the Stanley Cup Playoffs version of the Frozen Four.

Eastern Conference Finals: Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Philadelphia Flyers

It's the perfect battle...if you happen to live in the "State of Independence."

It's the Three Rivers-Independence Showdown between Pennsylvania's two teams. Vaclav Prospal leads the ultimate underdog Philadelphia Flyers into Pittsburgh to take on Sydney Crosby and the motivated Penguins.

This series will be filled with a lot of hits, a lot of scoring, and a lot of fights. Let's be honest, here. There is no love lost between these two teams, and it showed during the regular season. The Flyers took five of the seven games against the Pens this season, but this is the playoffs. And you can't script the postseason.

This series has what it takes to go seven games. And the way that these two teams have been playing so far this postseason, don't be surprised if it does go to seven games.

But the Penguins will finally beat the proverbial playoff slump monkey off their back and make it back to the Stanley Cup Finals. Good run for the Flyers, but not enough to get to the Finals.

Series Result: Penguins in 6

Western Conference Finals: Detroit Red Wings vs. Dallas Stars

No Avalanche. No Sharks. Some Old School Flavor. No problem.

In fact, that's perfect. It's the battle of the two biggest "Big D" cities in the central time zone. It's the Stars and the Wings fighting for the right to represent the Western Conference in the Stanley Cup Finals.

After an exciting Game Six, the Dallas Stars punched their ticket to the Frozen Four, and they now have to deal with the likes of the determined Detroit Red Wings.

After sweeping the Avs in the semifinals, Detroit has not even taken a rest. Practices have been going on even during the break from action.

Now some feel that Detroit has this due to the extra time off. Unfortunately, another Detroit team had some time off as well, and look what happened to them when play resumed.

This series could also go seven games, but Detroit is determined to regain its "Hockeytown" status. Don't expect Dallas to take this lying down. Plenty of blood. Plenty of fights. Plenty of action. Is Hollywood listening yet?

Series Result: Red Wings in 6

Now let's drop that puck and raise some hell! It's Playoff Time!

  1. As an AVS fan, I don't know who to hate more between the Stars and the Red Wings. Both teams we've had a rivalry in the past years (Especially in the 90s)

However, I think my pick would be the Red Wings. Yes, the Avalanche were a beat up and bruised team, but a sweep against a team with Joe Sakic as captain is still very impressive! Johan Franzen will haunt my dreams for many months!

The Wings will win in 6 (or less).

In the East, all I can say that its going to get nasty! It's hard not to pick the team that gave the boot to the #1 team in the conference, but its equally hard not to pick a team with Crosby, Malkin and Hossa.

The goaltenders will decide this series. The stronger one will win. Out of the two, Philly has the edge in net.

Meaning my pick is Philly in 7

  2. This is gonna be a tough series for both the Flyers and Pittsburgh. The Flyers arguably faced a tougher set of opponents to get to where they are than Pittsburgh, playing the 1st and 3rd seeded teams while Pittsburgh took on the 5th seed and the 7th seed that looked like the 700th seed at the end of the season. That's not to undermine the ability of this Pens team though - this team is just flat out GOOD. Tough series for both, I think it comes down to goaltending in this one. The Rangers proved that if you can shut down the top line of the Penguins, you can shut down the Penguins. The Flyers were able to do the same to Ovechkin and the Caps and then to Kovalev and the Canadiens, and Richards was able to flat out shut down Crosby all season, so I see no reason why the Flyers won't do the same here. If Biron continues to play flat out brilliant as he has all playoffs and Timonen and Richards can remove Crosby from the equation, the Flyers should be able to outmuscle the Pens in 7.

  3. Only one thing, Detroit is not in the central time zone, they are in the eastern time zone.
