Red Sox shortstop, Jed Lowrie will rehab tonight for the Lowell Spinners, Class A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The team announced that Lowrie would be in uniform for tonight's game at LeLacheur Park in Lowell.

Lowrie, a 2005 Lowell Spinner and 2008 Dick Berardino Lowell Spinners Alumni Award Winner, joins the Spinners as he continues his rehab from a wrist injury after making rehab appearances with Triple-A Pawtucket and Double-A Portland in the past weeks.

As a member of the Spinners in 2005, Lowrie was a New York-Penn League All-Star, leading the league with a .429 on-base percentage and tied for sixth with a .328 average. Following the season, Lowrie was named the No. 9 prospect in the Red Sox system, according to Baseball America.

Lowrie made his Major League debut in 2008, appearing in 81 regular season games, finishing with a .258 batting average, with two home runs and 46 RBI. Lowrie was a post-season hero for the Red Sox as well, delivering a walk-off single in Game Four of the ALDS to give the Red Sox a series win over the Angels.

Lowrie becomes the 14th Major Leaguer to rehab with the Spinners and the second former Spinner to rejoin the team on rehab, following 2001 Lowell Spinner Kevin Youkilis who rehabbed with the team in 2004.

A limited number of tickets remain available for tonight’s game against the Tri-City ValleyCats by contacting the Spinners Box Office at 978-459-1702 or on lowellspinners.com.
