Reported by Boston Sports Media Watch via Twitter:
Bruce Allen, author of BSMW, got the word from the Yahoo! Sports NBA Twitter feed, which he reported on his site earlier tonight.
Yahoo! reported it around 7:00 p.m on its Twitter page.
Spears joined the Globe staff in 2007 and covered the 2007-08 Boston Celtics championship run. He was only a two-year member of the staff.
With Spears moving on for better job security, like old friend and former Boston Red Sox beat writer Gordon Edes, there is now a massive hole to fill on the Celtic beat.
Keeping you posted with this developing story.
