LSU will kick off the 2009 football season in Seattle, Washington against the Washington Huskies. If you look at last year’s results, the Huskies do not seem like much of a threat. Finishing the 2008 season 0-12 does not strike fear in your opponents’ eyes going into the following season but there have been some coaching changes made by Washington in the off season.

After the 2008 season the Huskies let Tyrone Willingham go after 4 years. Willingham did nothing to impress the Huskie fans while in Washington. His record in Washington was 11-37 and as stated above the Huskies finished 0-12 last year which was the straw that broke the camel’s back for Willingham’s coaching career at UW.

So what does this mean for the Tigers when they make their way up to Seattle? It means the Huskies will have a new look under first year head coach Steve Sarkisian. So who is Steve Sarkisian? His coaching career started in 2002 and during that time he even coached in the NFL. Before being hired by UW he was an assistant coach at USC . This is his first head coaching gig and in the long run it might be a great hire for the Huskies. You can read more about Coach Sarkisian here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Sarkisian

It is still too early to talk about this, but I did hear that the line for this game will open up at 18. I do think LSU will win by two touchdowns or more but this the Huskies will be fired up. It will be Coach Sarkisian’s first game and it will be at home and will be on the big stage as it will be picked up by ESPN. It will be a great opportunity for Washington to at least make some type of statement.

When I do my picks for week 1 I will explain more as to why you should not even consider betting on this game, but as it gets closer to the season I will provide more information on this match up. This is just something to give all the college football fans something to talk about and for me to get the rust off of my writing skills.
