Chicago Cubs: Marty Brenneman Was Right, and Alfonso Soriano Proved It
A day late, sure, but Alfonso Soriano proved how stupid Cubs fans really are on Friday night.ย
After botching two fly balls that should have been easy outs, Soriano was the only one to blame for allowing a seventh inning run that put the Cubs down 3-1 to the St. Louis Cardinals.ย
Just an inning andย a half later though, Soriano placed a 2-0 offering from Jason Isringhausen in the right field seats to tie the game at three.

Clutch hitting by Soriano?ย You bet.ย I am sickened though by how many Cubs fans immediately forgot about how if Soriano hadn't messed up two fly balls just 45 minutes before, it would have been a go-ahead home run.ย
You've got to be kidding me, Cubs fans. Please.
Many spoke of him doing a great job redeeming himself.ย Nice job by him not to give up and keep his head down.
I will admit that I did not expect to see Fonzy come back in that fashion in the ninth.ย But he still did plenty on Friday night at the plate, not only in the field that made me sick.
You are a baby, Mr. Soriano.ย Quit your complaining and bat lower in this Cubs lineup.ย Lou Piniella, time for you to grow a pair and stop agreeing to anything Alfonso asks, just because his contract gives him an absurd amount of money.ย
He is not a leadoff hitter. Quit fooling yourself and quit trying to fool anyone that follows the game.ย He'sย a strikeout waiting to happen, I am tired of seeing him in the leadoff spot.
Twice on Friday night we saw Soriano up with two outs and at least one runner in scoring position.ย Before hitting the ninth-inning home run, what was it we saw him do?ย Strike out.ย
He couldn't even put the ball in play to give his teammates a chance to come around and score.ย Had he come through any of these times, his home run in the ninth would have been one of go-ahead form.
I am disappointed in Cubs fans in general.ย Granted I have come to expect responses and dumb conclusions from Cubs fans to be uneducated, but Friday night proved one thing to me: Marty Brenneman was entirely right in his assessment of Chicago fans a couple weeks ago.
