Who is the best 1-2 point guard punch in the NBA?

Now, I am not looking to find out who is the best point guard, but who has the best two?  Who is the team with the two PG's that can have the starter in, then put in the backup in and have no difference? Or maybe they are the team that has a very good starter, and a solid backup to win the games for them? Now, the following teams won't be who I think it is in order, it is just a list of the tandems, I will give my verdict at the end. Let's begin the search.

Derek Fisher, Jordan Farmer, Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers go with a veteran+youngster lineup. Both young and old are great players though. These two, well I don't want to say lead because it was Kobe who lead them, but they both heavily contributed on a team that became the first overall seed in the tough Western Conference. Derek Fisher played in all 82 games this year while averaging 11.7 points a game and 1.08 steals a game. Fisher is a proven point guard who has showed he can come up big in the clutch. Coming off the bench, they bring Jordan Farmar to the table, a great young developing point guard. This regular season, Farmar also played in all 82 games. He averaged 9.1 points a game, and almost a steal. As the years go on, Farmar will only get better. One more plus to this tandem, is that they both averaged under two turnovers a game. (Fisher 1.1, Farmar 1.3) What will probably be their downfall, is that they both average under 3 assists a game.

Stephon Marbury, Nate Robinson, New York Knicks

Ok, I am going to say right now that these guys won't win. (For many obvious reasons) But they definitely deserved a mention. They were on a crappy team, with crappy management and a crappy head coach. This year, Stephon Marbury averaged 14 points and almost 5 assists and almost a steal. We all know he can do better then that, he is just lazy and probably doesn't like where he is. Over the course of his career, Starbury averages almost 20 points, 8 assists and over a steal a game. If he were on a team that he liked better with a good coach, his averages would be closer to that. Nate Robinson, the former slam dunk champ is his own mini army. The guy is so explosive, and only 5'7. Big Nate averaged 12.7 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists a game. Pretty good for a backup. But I mean seriously, when your team is this bad, they aren't the best duo in the league.

Chris Paul, Janero Pargo, New Orleans Hornets

This one could almost be one handedly won by Chris Paul. This MVP candidate is insane, and young.  He averaged 21.1 points, and lead the league in both assists (11.6) and steals (2.7) per game. not to mention he pitched in 4 rebounds and played 80 of the 82 games. Paul has really stepped it up in the playoffs. In their first round series win vs. the Dallas Mavericks, he averaged 24.6 points, 12 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 2 steals a game. He has improved on everything except for steals. Pargo is one of the weaker backups on this list. His stats would probably be better if he didn't backup the best point guard in the league, but he has shown in the past he cannot be a starter. This season, he averaged 8.1 points and 2.4 assists a game. Not bad for a backup, but he is one of the weaker ones on this list.

  1. Hey, u forgot Andre Miller & Lou Williams for Philly!!!

  2. I'd take Parker/Vaughn over any of these guys with Paul/Pargo right behind. I like Fisher/Farmar slightly better than Miller/Williams and Kidd/Terry.

I refuse to call Arenas a point guard.

I refuse to call Marbury a basketball player.

T.J. Ford is a loser and Deron Williams by himself is better than Calderon so Williams/Price is next in line with Alston/Jackson ahead of Calderon/Ford.

    Fun article.

  3. I think that Paul and Pargo are the best, but if not, very closely followed by Ford and Calderon

  4. Why Kidd and Terry are not up there? They are a lot better than most PGs you've mentioned.

    1. Because Terry is even less of a point guard then Arenas is

  5. Marbury and Robinson were a disgrace this season.

    1. Thats why i said off the bat they wouldnt win
