On July 1, Manchester United got even more bad news on who they could get in this summer's transfer market as Lyon striker Karim Benzema left to Real Madrid in a transfer that is believed to be worth £35 million.

This means that Benzema is now off of United's list of potential transfers as Benzema was targeted to be a replacement for fellow Galácticos member Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez on Manchester United after both players left in June.

As a replacement to Ronaldo, United already picked up Wigan Athletic winger Antonio Valencia, but they also aimed to have Benzema join the team, as he has been one of the most pursued young European players in this year's transfer market, and United believed that they would get him as recently as several days ago when Benzema said that he had no intention to join the Red Devils.

Now with Benzema off their list, United will be aiming at getting several players during this transfer window, most notably Douglas Costa, MacDonald Mariga and Franck Ribery, but United will be competing against several other major European clubs, most notably Real Madrid, in order to get these players services.

The main key for United during this transfer window is to get the players who will fit in most for the team for the next several seasons, and not to be aggressive on players who will make a minimal impact at Old Trafford next year.

Also, they will need to get either Costa, Mariga and Franck in this transfer window to improve the team after the loss of Ronaldo and Tevez, and they also will need to find players within their own ranks to help improve the team.

If Manchester United can do this, they will have a great chance of having great success in both England and in Europe next season.
