The Orlando Magic are in serious talks with the New Jersey Nets and the Houston Rockets about a blockbuster trade. While the Magic are in serious worry of losing Hedo Turkoglu and having to go over the luxury tax, they may be eying other options: Vince Carter and former Orlando Magic Tracy McGrady.

Carter and McGrady both have contracts that end much sooner than Hedo’s; however, they would cost more than Hedo.

If acquired, the Magic would be giving up point guard Rafer Alston and Tony Battie. The Magic would be getting a motivated Vince Carter that knows he would be on a championship caliber team.

However, McGrady right now is currently rehabbing, and may not be available until January. Both Carter and McGrady are established veterans who if healthy would provide a scoring punch.

As good as both of those players are, watching the playoffs last season, I thought Hedo was indispensable to Orlando. He was there primary play maker, he was a rare point forward, and most importantly he was their go to guy in the clutch. He means too much to them, and right now I believe he is a better option than McGrady or Carter.

Both Carter and McGrady have Florida roots, but are they better options than Hedo right now. McGrady is coming off one of his worst seasons and had a major surgery, and Carter, at 32, you don’t know what you’re getting.

However, this makes sense, especially if Hedo demands the big money in free agency, because right now, it seems he has all the leverage.
