Cung Le Blessed To Have Round 5 Figurine Opportunity
Written By Paul Delos Santos
The last thing Cung Le expected was to have an figurine made in his image. Well, he will now have one thanks in part to Round 5, which is set to release a Cung Le figurine in July as part of its MMA Champions series.
The company, which has released action figures of other MMA superstars Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Anderson Silva and Wanderlei Silva, announced Le would join Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, Matt Serra, Dan Henderson, Fedor Emeliankenko and Gina Carano in their series four release. The six-fighter set is the largest Round 5 has released.
The decision was easy for Round 5 President Damon Lau, "Cung Le's popularity across a wide range of audiences made him an ideal partner for Round 5. Besides his international following in MMA and kick boxing, his growing movie career is gaining him a new set of fans. He was very involved in the process of creating his figurine, and we think the finished product reflects the hard work he put into it."
Le was honored to have a figurine made in his likeness, joining an elite level of fighters who have been immortalized by Round 5.
"I feel blessed," Le said. "Every day I wake up, thank God that I get the chance to be who I am. I'm grateful to live and have all that I have and the people around me. ... It's just awesome."
Le will be spending time at ComicCon in San Diego from July 23-26 to promote the figurine and other the movies he has been working on including "Pandorum," which is set for release on Sept. 4.
"I’m going to be quite busy out there," Le said.
The action figure, the budding acting career are all part of Le's growing stardom in the mainstream. It also has provided him other means to help support his family outside of the cage.
“I count my blessing and I'm happy to provide for my family and two boys,” he said. “I'm getting married in August. I'm very lucky.”
When asked what the coolest thing about his action figure, Le simply replied," It kinda looks like me. That's the cool thing."
Le is undefeated in MMA competition, boasting a 6-0 career record. He has finished all of his fights by knockout or technical knockout. He claimed the Strikeforce middleweight championship, following a three-round epic that saw Le break Frank Shamrock’s arm to win the title.
Le hasn’t set a return date, though he did admit that he was starting to get the itch to fight again and wanted to get back into training for a fight.
Looks like fans will have to wait for Le’s return, but in the mean time, they can get their Cung Le fix by watching his movies and collecting his action figure.
Fans can purchase all Round 5 figures at www.round5mma.com, and at selected Toys R Us locations.
