MMA: Urijah Is A Fighter! Uber-Awesome Name From Ancient Warriors!
If you thought this article was going to be only about Urijah Faber - I gotchya!
The fighter in the picture is Urijah Hall - an up and comer from Bellator Fighting Championship. What fascinates me the most about MMA is trying to find new fighters on smaller shows before they break into big time - and I surely hope Urijah Hall will be one of them - he is a Tiger Schulman kickboxing/MMA product which delivered very flashy taek won do style TKO similar to Cung Le. Perhaps he went intentionally 3 rounds to showcase is flashy MMA skills - it is totally worth watching the whole fight! He may not Cung Le caliber just yet - but he definitely is a very exciting fighter to watch - in case you missed the last Bellator show - check it out here.
So yes, Urijah is a very unique name - but now I have 2 favorite fighters whose first name is Urijah (in case you don't know yet - even my dog is called Uriyah), the origins of this name can be traced to bible [the meaning is: "the lord is my light"]:
"And king Ahaz went to Damascusto meet Tiglathpileser king of Assyria, and saw an altar that was at Damascus: and king Ahazsent to Urijah the priest the fashion of the altar, and the pattern of it, according to all the workmanship thereof.
11And Urijah the priest built an altar according to all that king Ahazhad sent from Damascus: so Urijah the priest made it against king Ahaz came from Damascus.
12 And when the king was come from Damascus, the king saw the altar: and the king approached to the altar, and offered thereon."

!!Update:!! I had a incomplete source for the name Urijah (pays to check out Jewish encyclopedia): "A Hittite; husband of Bath-sheba, and one of David's picked warriors. The scanty Biblical allusions to him are of value as illustrating the taboo under which warriors were constrained to abstain from sexual intercourse, through which circumstance David's plan to cover his illicit relations with Bath-sheba was frustrated. Sent back to camp, Uriah was placed, by David's secret orders, "in the forefront of the hottest battle," and fell at the siege of Rabbah."
I saw it on History channel - when they described King David as one of the most ruthless kings of the bible - and Uriah was his BEST WARRIOR!!!
So when I said that I was going to change the name of my puppy - I was only kidding - as Urijah is a great name for a fighter - and I wish Urijah Faber quick and painless recovery after hitting that brick wall called Mike Thomas Brown.
