Why Robin Van Persie Isn't Going Anywhere

The tabloids are obviously very bored because they have been linking Robin Van Persie with Man United for the last few days. At the time it may have been a good idea; Van Persie hasn't signed a new contract yet, and Man United need a player to replace the big void (apparently) that Ronaldo has left.

What do we get? "Van Persie going to Man Utd!"

No. This doesn't work. When you think of it with the circumstantial evidence, it may sound sane. However, logistically, theoretically, it would be the dumbest move in history if by some long shot it were to happen.

The tabloids don't seem to realise that Van Persie does in fact still have one year left on his current contract. The new contract that is in the works involves a pay raise and a longer term. Research isn't important anymore, it seems.

Van Persie knows that Arsenal has made him the player he is today. He loves Arsenal and would never leave for a rival club. If at some point he was to leave Arsenal, we can be sure that it's to a club in a different league.

Why is Van Persie stalling? He wants to be sure that the squad is able to compete next season. Van Persie has ambition and wants to win lots of silverware, so he's ironically holding up on putting pen to paper until those signings are made. Arsenal has already made progress with the signing of Thomas Vermaelen, which is being kept under the radar by the Arsenal staff.

If the Vermaelen transfer goes through and another big signing is made, that will give us a chance to challenge for the title, as he will surely sign the extension to his contract.

Noble intentions? Probably, but Van Persie is staying at Arsenal.
