C.M. Punk vs. Jeff Hardy: The Great Feud of 2009

It almost seems that at least once a year, the WWE produces at least one great feud that captivates not only hardcore wrestling fans and casual fans alike.

Last year around this time, we saw the start of one of the greatest feuds of all time referring to Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels.

One of the reasons why this feud was so good was because the aforementioned superstars didn't compete in the ring every month and instead interacted in segments to keep the feud fresh.

Other great feuds like Batista vs. Undertaker or Edge vs. John Cena didn't exactly have that same luxury that Michaels and Jericho had, since those two feuds were for titles.

However, the one thing that made those feuds great is simply described in one word, chemistry. Chemistry is the one thing that turns a mediocre feud into a great feud.

While Jericho is involved in another great feud with Rey Mysterio, it won't be long before that feud will be overshadowed by another feud in the form of Jeff Hardy vs. C.M. Punk.

Last night, after Punk retained the World Heavyweight Title in a triple threat match involving both Jeff Hardy and Edge, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long announced that Punk would defend his title at The Bash against Hardy.

While at this time both Hardy and Punk are both babyfaces, I know in my heart that this is the start of something special in terms of these two. After all, Jericho started out as a babyface in his feud with Michaels.

I'm sure that the SmackDown writers are beginning a slow heel turn for Punk, but then again, I could be wrong. Either way, this should be one of the great feuds not only in the annals of the WWE, but in the annals of wrestling period.

Both men are talented in the ring. Punk is a solid promo guy while Jeff has improved in that category. Those factors prove that this will be hands down the best feud of the WWE in 2009, barring an injury to either individual or if Jeff decides to indeed take that time off.

Obviously, I'm no fortune teller. I can't predict the future nor do I try to predict the future with 100 percent accuracy. I can only go with my gut feelings. Right now, my gut is telling me that the upcoming feud between Jeff Hardy and C.M. Punk is going to be one for the ages.

If I'm right, I'm right; if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. WWE better not drop the ball with this one.
