Stallworth Receives Reduced Sentence Because Reyes Family Settles For Cash
I did not want to get into this argument, and I resisted the urge for as long as I could, but now that the news has broken, I cannot stay silent anymore.
So the verdict is in for the case of Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte' Stallworth. Who was driving drunk in Miami, FL early in the morning on March 14 then hit and killing Mario Reyes who was crossing a highway to try to catch his bus.
He has received a sentence of 30 days in jail, 10 years of probation, 1,000 hours of community service, a lifetime driving suspension (which can be reduced in five years) and the Reyes family received an undisclosed amount of money in a settlement to prevent a future lawsuit. (Also, look for a big suspension to be handed down from the NFL Commissioner.)

I cannot believe this.
Shame on you, Reyes family, for selling out a family member's life for some cash.
I truly believed that the Reyes family would want to see this unfortunate event play out in its fullest, but I was wrong.
Months after that fateful night, when Stallworth hit and killed a man crossing the highway after driving home drunk from a club, we finally have our answer to just what exactly is the most important thing on this planet.
Not life, family, friends, significant others—only cold hard cash is important.
This is all just wrong. A human being was killed, but cash is king.
Now, to state all sides of the matter, first I want to look at Stallworth.
He was driving drunk in the early hours of the morning, after partying at a club, and hit a pedestrian. This is without a doubt completely his fault. It's not like he couldn't afford a cab, considering he just got a $4.5 million bonus the day before.
Next, let's look at Stallworth's lawyers. Talk about getting the best bang for your buck. Initially facing four to 15 years in jail, the lawyers brought it down to 30 days.
I'm still in shock.
Then you have to look at Mario Reyes, who worked a late shift and was trying to catch his bus back home. In doing so, Reyes had to run across a highway with a median and not in a cross walk area. Who runs across a highway?
Sorry to say this, but Reyes is also at fault, even though he life was cut short.
I know that was very harsh to say, but in every article I've read regarding this accident, no one even suggested that Reyes might be at fault for running across a highway.
Finally, the Reyes family. Shame on you, again, for selling out for some cash. If one of my family members' lives was cut short, no matter who was to blame, I would not sell his/her life out for some cash.
It's just pathetic.
I apologize for this rant of an article, but someone had to do it, and now I feel much better because of it.
There really is no real justice, pride and family honor in our society anymore.
Michael Vick even got more time in jail for cruelty to animals, but killing a man gets you 30 days...explain that please...
